Yakimochi Wraps

Ingredients:

Yakimochi Wraps

  • 1 tablespoon low-sodium shoyu
  • 1 tablespoon mirin
  • Sugar to taste
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons sesame oil
  • 10 pieces of unsweetened mochi (Japanese rice cake, firm variety) cut into 1"x 2" pieces
  • 1 tablespoon toasted sesame seeds
  • 10 pieces of Korean nori
  • 1/4 cup of honey (optional)

Directions:

  1. Heat grill to medium.
  2. Mix together shoyu, mirin and sugar to taste.
  3. Brush mochi with oil; place on grill 2 inches apart.
  4. Grill until golden brown and crisp on the outside, and gooey inside, flipping often.
  5. Brush with sauce and grill for 1-2 minutes or until caramelized.
  6. Remove from grill, sprinkle with sesame seeds, and wrap in nori.
  7. Drizzle with honey (optional).

Makes 10 wraps.
