Recognizing Outstanding Science and Math Teachers
Established by the White House in 1983 and sponsored by the National Science Foundation, the Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching recognizes outstanding science and math teachers throughout the nation. Hawaiian Electric Company locally supports this program.
Recognition is given to teachers in four award groups: elementary mathematics, elementary science, secondary mathematics, and secondary science. These teachers serve as role models for their colleagues and are leaders in the improvement of mathematics and science education.
Hawaiian Electric has supported this program since 1989. In recognition of Hawaii's outstanding teachers, Hawaiian Electric provides a grant and plaque to each state finalist and winner in all categories.
Hawaiian Electric partners with the State Department of Education and the School Renewal Group.
