Spaghetti with Homemade Tomato Sauce

Ingredients:

Spaghetti with Homemade Tomato Sauce

  • 2 (16-ounce) box spaghetti
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1/2 onion, finely chopped
  • 1/4 cup minced green peppers
  • 4 cloves garlic, chopped
  • 4 (28 ounce) canned crushed tomatoes
  • 2 teaspoons black pepper
  • 4 tablespoons dried basil
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1/3 cup of grated Parmesan cheese
  • 4 leaves fresh basil
  • 2 sprigs oregano

Directions:

  1. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil.
  2. Cook the spaghetti according to the package instructions.
  3. Heat olive oil in a pot over medium heat.
  4. Add onion and green pepper and saute for 7 minutes.
  5. Add garlic and stir for 2 minutes.
  6. Add tomatoes, pepper, dried basil and sugar.
  7. Bring to low boil and stir.
  8. Reduce heat to low and simmer for 2-3 hours stirring often.
  9. Simmer uncovered for the first half of the simmer time, then cover.
  10. Add cheese, fresh basil and oregano.
  11. Stir and simmer for an additional 5 minutes.

Serves 10.
