Spaghetti Pie

Ingredients:

Spaghetti Pie

  • Vegetable spray
  • 2 quarts water
  • 8 oz spaghetti
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon salad oil
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1/3 cup shredded Parmesan cheese
  • 1 tablespoon butter or margarine, softened
  • 1 cup cottage cheese
  • 1/2 lb lean ground meat or poultry
  • 1/2 cup chopped onion
  • 1/2 cup chopped green pepper
  • 1 cup prepared spaghetti sauce
  • 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

Directions:

  1. Preheat electric oven to 350°F.
  2. Spray a 9-inch pie plate with vegetable spray.
  3. In a large saucepot, bring the water to a boil.
  4. Add the spaghetti, salt, and oil.
  5. Stirring occasionally, cook for 8 to 10 minutes; drain and rinse with cold water.
  6. In a large bowl, combine egg, Parmesan cheese, and butter.
  7. Add spaghetti and toss until evenly mixed.
  8. Put spaghetti into prepared pie plate and mold to the shape of the plate.
  9. Spread cottage cheese over spaghetti in the bottom of the pie plate.
  10. In a skillet, brown ground meat or poultry.
  11. Add onion and green pepper; cook for a few minutes.
  12. Add spaghetti sauce and mix well.
  13. Spoon meat mixture over cottage cheese.
  14. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes.
  15. Sprinkle with mozzarella cheese and let cool 10 minutes before serving.

Makes 6 servings.
