Shirley’s Five Spice Chicken

Ingredients:

Shirleys Five Spice Chicken

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup low-sodium shoyu
  • 2 cloves star anise, crushed
  • 2 teaspoons sesame seed oil
  • 2 or more cloves chopped garlic
  • 2 (1-inch) pieces of ginger peeled and crushed
  • 5 pounds boneless skinless chicken thighs

Directions:

  1. In a large pot, boil sugar, shoyu, star anise, sesame oil, garlic and ginger.
  2. Add the chicken and simmer for at least 2 hours.
  3. Shred chicken and serve with sweetbread rolls as sliders.
  4. It can be made the night before for an easy potluck dish.

Makes 10 servings.
