  • 1/4 cup chopped onion
  • 1/4 cup chopped sweet red pepper
  • 1/4 cup chopped green pepper
  • 2 pounds 90% lean ground beef
  • 3 tablespoons steak sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon seasoned salt
  • 4 slices swiss cheese, halved
  • 8 hamburger buns

Directions:

  1. In a large skillet, cook bacon over medium heat until crisp, stirring occasionally.
  2. Remove; drain on paper towels.
  3. Cook and stir mushrooms, onion and peppers in bacon drippings until tender.
  4. Remove to a small bowl; cool completely.
  5. Stir in bacon.
  6. In a large bowl, combine beef, steak sauce and seasoned salt, mixing lightly but thoroughly.
  7. Shape into 16 thin patties.
  8. Top eight of the patties with cheese, folding cheese to fit within 3/4 inch of edge.
  9. Spread with mushroom mixture.
  10. Top with remaining patties, pressing edges to enclose filling.
  11. Grill burgers, uncovered, over medium-high heat or broil 4 inches from heat 5-6 minutes on each side or until well done.
  12. Serve on hamburger buns.

Serves 8.

Tip: Don’t press down on a hamburger patty while cooking. Pressing the patty squeezes all the juice out causing a dry burger.

Tip: To keep your burger moist when grilling, place a small ice cube in the middle of your patty. As it cooks, the ice cube melts and distributes moisture through the burger.
