Mari’s Gardens Fresh Steamed Tilapia

  • 1 cup watercress tips, washed well
  • 5 tablespoons shoyu
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 3 tablespoons sesame oil
  • 1 2-inch piece of young ginger, thinly sliced
  • Cilantro to taste
  • 4-inch stalk negi (leaf onion), thinly sliced
  • 1 pound fresh farm-raised tiliapia


  1. In a large bowl, toss watercress, shoyu, sugar, sesame oil, ginger, cilantro and negi.
  2. Place half of the mixture on a plate for the steamer.
  3. Place tilapia on the mixture.
  4. Place remaining mixture over tilapia.
  5. Cover and steam fish for 18 minutes until the meat flakes off the bone.

Serves 4.

Tip: Negi, or leaf onion, is a type of leek and often mistaken for green onions. It is one of the most versatile ingredients of Japanese cuisine.
