Gyro Melt

Gyro Melt

  • 4 slices crusty artisan bread of choice
  • 1 tablespoon butter, room temperature
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella
  • 1/4 cup crumbled feta
  • 8 ounces gyro meat (see above recipe)
  • 1/4 small red onion, thinly sliced
  • 4 slices beefsteak tomato
  • Tzatziki sauce for dipping, optional


  1. Heat a large non-stick pan over medium heat.
  2. Butter the outside of each slice of bread.
  3. On two slices of bread evenly sprinkle half of both cheeses on the inside of each slice.
  4. Top with gyro meat, onion, tomato, remaining cheese, and cover each sandwich with another slice of bread.
  5. Add sandwiches to pan and grill until golden brown and cheese has melted, about 2-4 minutes per side.
  6. Serve with homemade or store-bought tzatziki sauce on the side.

Makes 4 half sandwiches.
