Guava Nut Bars

Ingredients:

Guava Nut Bars

  • 1 1/2 cups flour
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon cloves
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 3/4 cup guava jam
  • 1/3 cup chopped walnuts

Directions:

  1. Heat oven to 375°F.
  2. Coat an 11-by-7-inch pan with non-stick cooking spray.
  3. Sift flour, sugar, baking powder, and spices together.
  4. Cut in butter as in making pie crust.
  5. Add vanilla to egg and combine with flour mixture.
  6. Spread 2/3 of the flour mixture in 11-by-7-inch pan to form a crust.
  7. In a small bowl, mix jam and nuts together.
  8. Spread jam mixture on crust.
  9. Top with the remaining flour mixture.
  10. Bake for 25 minutes.
  11. Cool in pan.
  12. Cut into bars.

Makes 24 bars.
