Baked Ulu (Breadfruit) Chips

Ingredients:

Baked Ulu Breadfruit Chips

  • 4-6 cups of water
  • 2 tablespoon Hawaiian salt
  • Chili water to season (optional)
  • 1 2-3 pound firm breadfruit
  • 5 tablespoons coconut oil
  • 3 tablespoons Turmeric or Curry Powder

Directions:

  1. Bring water to boil in large pot, add salt and chili water.
  2. Place whole fruit into the pot and let it boil until tender when pricked with a knife, about 15 minutes.
  3. Drain and cool.
  4. Peel and core the fruit.
  5. Using a sharp knife, slice into thin pieces.
  6. Brush with coconut oil and toss with spices.
  7. Spread pieces in one layer on a parchment lined baking sheet.
  8. Bake chips at 375°F until they are golden brown and crisp.
  9. Let cool and serve.

Makes 5 servings.

I didn't see information on what temperature to bake the ulu--does it matter?
