With scam calls, phishing and more elaborate schemes on the rise, Hawaii utilities are asking customers to remain vigilant as scammers ramp up their activity during the holidays. The warning comes on Utility Scam Awareness Day, a national event created to spotlight ripoffs aimed at utility customers.

Hawaiian Electric has set a goal to cut carbon emissions from power generation 70% by 2030. The reduction includes generation owned by Hawaiian Electric and independent power producers who sell electricity to the utility.

Hawaiian Electric is seeking to expand its public electric vehicle charger network and implement lower EV charging rates as part of the company’s ongoing effort to help Hawaii achieve its decarbonization goals. The company is asking the Public Utilities Commission (PUC) to approve its proposed Public Electric Vehicle Charger Expansion Project.

Hawaiian Electric has donated $50,000 to Kaala Farm for the Waianae Kai Wildfire Prevention & Mitigation Project in support of community resilience and environmental stewardship in this culturally and ecologically significant area in West Oahu.

Hawaiian Electric grant helps restoration of West Maui forest

Hawaiian Electric has recently donated $31,000 to non-profit organization Malama Kahalawai in support of restoring an Olowalu stream corridor with native Hawaiian plants and trees. Funded through the Hawaiian Electric Industries Charitable Foundation (HEICF), the project involves the seeding, propagating, planting, and monitoring of hardy and resilient species native to 14-acres of the mauna Kahalawai area or the West Maui mountains.

Scammers are using more elaborate schemes to steal money from Hawaiian Electric customers – but don’t become a victim! In some recent cases, scammers have contacted real estate agents and threatened to immediately shut off power to their listing if payment was not made.
