Hawaiian Electric has restored electricity to the majority of customers in Hawaii Kai and East Honolulu but about 1,800 customers will remain without power tonight and through most of Monday.

Today, AES Hawaii celebrated the launch of its West Oahu solar-plus-storage project in Kapolei – the company’s first facility to combine solar generation and battery energy storage on Oahu. The launch was commemorated with a blessing ceremony at the project site and reception at the nearby University of Hawaii-West Oahu campus.

Hawaiian Electric will be using unmanned aircraft, or drones, for aerial inspections of its infrastructure in the Kaanapali, West Maui area on Thursday, April 4, and Friday, April 5, from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., weather permitting.

Hawaiian Electric crews will replace a utility pole and equipment near Haleiwa Beach Park on Monday, April 8, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. An outage is needed to safely perform the work, affecting traffic signals at the intersection of Kamehameha and Joseph P. Leong highways where special duty police and flagmen will direct motorists.

Hawaiian Electric crews will replace three utility poles on Hawaii Belt Road, also known as Mamalahoa Highway, in Kailua-Kona on April 3-4 and April 9-10.

A year-long workplace campaign led by Hawaiian Electric employees resulted in raising more than $316,000 for Aloha United Way, the nonprofit working to advance the health, education and financial stability of the Hawaii community. Guided by the campaign theme Pilina, the Hawaiian meaning “to come together,” employees united with retirees and IBEW Local 1260 to amplify their fundraising efforts.
