Poi Mochi

  • 1 pound of poi
  • 2 cups water
  • 2 packages (10-ounces each) mochiko flour
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 quart canola oil for frying

  1. In a large bowl, combine all ingredients except oil; mix well.
  2. Over medium-high heat in a large pan or wok, heat oil for frying.
  3. Drop the poi mixture by the teaspoon into the oil and deep fry until slightly crisp (1-2 minutes).
  4. Remove and drain mochi on paper towels to absorb excess oil.

Make 3 dozen pieces.

Sure, but we don't recommend leaving it too long in the fridge for freshness.

Can you keep the poi mochi in the fridge, if you don't want to cook all the batter?
