Maui Electric Company, Limited (the “Company”) provides the following update for the Final Request for Proposals for Variable Renewable Dispatchable Generation Paired With Energy Storage for the Island of Molokai filed on November 27, 2019 (“Molokai RFP”). In the Status Update on the Selection of the Final Award Group and Next Steps filed on November 2, 2020 in Docket No. 2019-0178, the Company explained that the Final Award Group awardee had elected to withdraw from the Molokai RFP.
In light of this decision by the Final Award Group awardee, and after consultation with and concurrence of the Independent Observer, the Company has concluded that the next highest ranked project does not show sufficient benefit to justify selection as a replacement Final Award Group awardee. Therefore, since the Molokai RFP and subsequent Best and Final Offer and Pricing Refresh rounds has not resulted in an approvable project, the Company respectfully proposes to close the Molokai RFP.
The Company will continue to work with the Independent Observer and keep the Commission apprised of the Company’s progress.

Please visit the Community Based-Renewable Energy Resources page for more information about this filing. Community-Based Renewable Energy ("CBRE") provides a way for participating subscribers without privately-owned rooftop solar to benefit from electricity generated by a renewable energy facility located in their utility service territory.

Maui Electric Company, Ltd. (the "Company") is seeking proposals for Renewable Dispatchable Generation Paired with Energy Storage for the Company System on the island of Molokai. For the purpose of siting a project to fulfill all or part of the RFP request, the Company is offering potential Proposers a site visit at the Company's Palaau site. Interested parties are invited to attend a site visit, which will be held on Tuesday, December 17, 2019 from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. (HST). NOTE: Section 3.11.2 of the Molokai RFP lists the incorrect date for the site visit.

The site is currently a vacant field with vegetation and other obstacles on the ground. Therefore, attendees are required to wear a safety vest, long pants, safety glasses, and covered shoes, which may become soiled. A limited number of safety vests will be available for use, but attendees are encouraged to bring their own. Participants should be prepared to be exposed to the sun for approximately 1 hour and must be able to walk over uneven terrain.
All attendees will be accompanied by a guide who will be available to answer questions about the site. All questions and answers will be logged and made available at a later date on the Company's website for this request for proposals.
Those planning to attend, or anyone with questions, are encouraged to notify the Company via email at firstname.lastname@example.org. Please note that attendance at the site visit is not mandatory to participate in the RFP.
