125 Years of Service
The Hawaiian Electric Companies have been serving Hawaii for 125 years. And today, we're in the middle of an exciting transformation, to achieve 100 percent renewable energy for Hawaii. We're working with many partners to achieve this goal. And through it all, one thing will remain the same: our commitment to provide you with safe, reliable and affordable service.
Our Foundation and Shared Vision
Our foundation is rooted in a legacy of leadership and innovation.
We at Hawaiian Electric, Maui Electric, and Hawaii Electric Light have a rich history in Hawaii. We trace our founding to the vision of King David Kalakaua who first brought electricity to the people of Hawaii in the 1880s. Iolani Palace was one of the first royal residences in the world to be lit by electricity, preceding even the White House. We are proud of this legacy of leadership and innovation - a legacy that drives our strong commitment to Hawaii's future.
Our vision is not just for our companies but for Hawaii as a whole.
Our vision is to empower our customers and communities with affordable, reliable, clean energy, and provide innovative energy leadership for Hawaii.
