Crews Working

KAHULUI, Aug. 24, 2023 – By the end of this week, Hawaiian Electric estimates that over 95% of Maui customers who lost electricity will have their power back on as crews work to restore the majority of customers in the West Maui and Upcountry areas.

In West Maui, distribution lines to connect customers to a second mobile substation set up in the Lahaina area have been completed and energized. While energized, the crews are taking final steps in the restoration process before power is expected to be restored by this weekend.

In Upcountry, crews are also making progress with clearing fallen trees, managing vegetation, and replacing downed poles. A remaining outage pocket of about 50 customers in the Upcountry area is expected to be restored this weekend.

Company representatives are directly communicating with customers via email, phone calls, and door-to-door to ensure safe and reliable restoration at respective properties in the West Maui and Upcountry areas.

More than 400 Hawaiian Electric employees and contractors from Hawaii Island, Lanai, Molokai and Oahu are on Maui to help with restoration work.
