Ingredients:

Time 2 Grind's Hamburger Steak

Hamburgers:

  • 3 eggs
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon pepper
  • 2 slices of bread
  • 3 pounds ground beef

Gravy:

  • ½ cup butter (1 stick)
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1/2 cup hamburger drippings
  • 1/3 cup soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup water

Directions:

  1. In a bowl whisk together the eggs, salt and pepper.
  2. Tear the bread into large pieces, and place into the bowl.
  3. Let the bread soak into the egg mixture until fully absorbed (1-2 minutes).
  4. Mix the ground beef into the egg-bread mixture, and form into 9 patties.
  5. Heat a large heavy skillet over medium-high heat, and fry the hamburger patties until the meat is no longer pink in the center, about 8 minutes per side.
  6. Turn off stove and place cooked hamburger patties on paper towels and set aside.
  7. Remove and save the excess grease from the skillet.
  8. Melt butter in a sauce pan over medium-low heat; add flour stirring until combined and golden brown in color (about 3 to 5 minutes).
  9. Slowly whisk in soy sauce, drippings, water and salt and pepper until mixture thickens.
  10. Place the patties back into the skillet, pour gravy over them, and bring to a boil over medium-high heat.
  11. Reduce the heat to a simmer, and cook about 20 minutes.
  12. Serve over hot rice or add a fried egg on top to make a loco moco.

Makes 9 servings.
