Tostones (Refried Bananas)

Tostones (Refried Bananas)

  • 3 plantains (cooking bananas)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • Salad oil for frying


  1. Carefully remove peel from bananas.
  2. Cut bananas into 1/2-inch diagonal pieces and place in water to cover.
  3. Add salt.
  4. In a skillet, heat oil to 375°F.
  5. Drain banana pieces and fry until lightly browned.
  6. Drain on paper towels.
  7. Gently, but firmly, flatten pieces.
  8. Return to skillet and fry until golden brown on both sides; drain.

Makes about 6 servings.
