Ingredients:
Pipi Kaula (Dried Meat)
Try this delicious recipe from the Electric Kitchen!
1 lb flank steak or boneless chuck roast
1/2 cup soy sauce
1/2 cup water
2 Hawaiian red peppers, minced
Directions:
Cut meat with the grain into 1-inch strips.
Place in shallow container or plastic bag.
Combine soy sauce, water, and red peppers; pour over meat.
Marinate in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours.
Drain and arrange meat on cooling racks set on baking sheets.
Dry in electric oven at 150°F for 7 to 8 hours or until of "jerky" texture.
Meat can also be dried in an electric dehydrator following instructions, or dried in a dry box for a day, or until meat is dried, turning every 4 hours.
To serve, fry in olive or peanut oil and slice across grain in bite-size pieces.
Makes 4 servings.
