Onion Tarte

Onion Tarte

  • 1 cup butter
  • 1 1/2 lb onions, chopped
  • 1 cup flour
  • 2 cups warm milk
  • 4 eggs, slightly beaten
  • 1 cup light cream
  • 1/4 lb bacon, cut into 1 inch pieces and blanched
  • Salt, pepper, and nutmeg to taste
  • 10-inch unbaked pie shell


Preheat electric oven to 375°F. In a saucepan, melt butter and sauté onions until golden brown. Slowly add flour; stir in milk. Combine eggs and cream; add to onion mixture. Stir in bacon and season with salt, pepper, and nutmeg. Pour into prepared pie shell and bake for 30 minutes. Makes 6 to 8 servings.
