Nori-Wrapped Ahi

Ingredients:

Nori-Wrapped Ahi

  • 1 lb sashimi-grade ahi fillet, 1/2-inch thick
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 to 4 teaspoons wasabi (horseradish paste)
  • Pepper to taste
  • Shichimi (Japanese 7-spices) to taste (optional)
  • 4 sheets sushi nori (variety of seaweed used for sushi)
  • 1 to 2 tablespoons salad oil
  • Soy sauce

Directions:

  1. Cut ahi into 6 x 2-inch strips.
  2. Combine mayonnaise and wasabi; spread on ahi strips.
  3. Sprinkle with pepper and shichimi.
  4. Roll ahi in nori sheets; cut off any excess nori.
  5. In a skillet, heat oil; quickly sear ahi rolls on all sides.
  6. Cut rolls into servings pieces; serve with soy sauce.

Makes 6 appetizer servings.
