New World Raita

New World Raita

  • 1/2 cup plain whole milk yogurt, gelatin free
  • 1 medium English or Japanese cucumber, peeled, seeded, and diced
  • 1/4 cup finely minced red onion
  • 1 medium ripe avocado (Haas variety), peeled and diced
  • 1 large ripe tomato (or 2 small tomatoes), peeled and diced
  • 2 tablespoons chopped mint or cilantro leaves
  • Salt and pepper to taste


  1. Drain yogurt in a fine mesh strainer or cheese cloth for about 1 hour; discard liquid.
  2. Combine the yogurt, cucumber, onion, avocado, tomato, and mint or cilantro leaves; stir gently.
  3. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  4. Refrigerate for 30 minutes before serving.

Makes 6 servings.
