Khal Bi

3 lb short ribs
1 cup soy sauce
2 cups water
1/2 cup sugar
2 tablespoons grated or pureed garlic
2 tablespoons grated or pureed onion
2 tablespoons grated or pureed papaya
1 teaspoon pepper
1 stalk green onion, chopped


  1. Trim excess fat from ribs.
  2. Combine remaining ingredients.
  3. Marinate ribs in sauce and refrigerate for one day.
  4. Broil or grill ribs on both sides to desire degree of doneness.

Makes 6 servings.
