Grilled Sweet Onion Lomi Tomato

Grilled Sweet Onion Lomi Tomato

  • 1 medium Ewa sweet onion, cut in slices to form 1/2-inch thick rounds
  • 12 ounces heirloom cherry tomatoes, halved or quartered, depending on size
  • 1/2 cup sliced green onion
  • 2 teaspoon fish sauce
  • Hawaiian sea salt to taste
  • 1 Hawaiian chili pepper, or to taste, optional


  1. Grill each side of the onion slices over a high flame.
  2. Do not cook through.
  3. Cool onion and dice.
  4. In a medium bowl, add onion, tomatoes, green onion, fish sauce, salt, and optional chili pepper.
  5. Marinate for at least 1 hour or overnight.

Makes 4 servings.
