I have tried many Sweet & sour spare ribs recipes, and this one is a keeper! I definitely agree Dark brown sugar produced more appetizing color of the ribs & the sauce. I added sliced ginger and carrots. The onions better to cut into quarters. The results comes close to Leeward Drive-Inn style!

I follow this recipe but exclude the bell peppers and onions. I add about a tablespoon of minced ginger to this recipe (more if you’re a ginger fan). I marinate the ribs overnight or longer. For variations, I have added daikon (fresh or pickled) or lap cheong (Chinese sausage) or both. My family like it with both daikon and sausage. Reminds us of our mom’s sweet sour spare ribs.

Am I related to Charlotte? ( same last name!) I loved this recipe! Thanks for sharing. I only used 1 TBS corn starch because I prefer a thinner broth.

Added some peeled and smashed ginger root and daikon. Just like my sister -in-law made. Came out perfect.

Needs 1 cup real pineapple juice. Not the liquid from the chunks. Darker brown sugar the better. Don't use the organic vinegar. Heinz applecider.

In the middle of making this now. It smells yummy! Only thing is the liquid doesn't seem like it's enough. I halved the recipe since I only have 2.5 lbs of pork. Hope it turns out okay!

I love sweet and sour spare ribs...this recipe was a dream, so easy to make and delicious. I cut it in half because I only had about 2 lbs. of pork. I also added some ginger and daikon which the recipe doesn't call for but really made it ono. Also, sort of sweet, can used less sugar and more shoyu to balance the sweetness. Very quick and easy dinner. It's my new favorite recipe!!

Love, love, love this super simple recipe. I highly recommend it to anyone who misses a good sweet and sour recipe. I’m a lazy cook, so this suits me just fine and tastes delicious.
