Easy Shoyu Chicken


Easy Shoyu Chicken

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup low-sodium shoyu
  • 3 star anise
  • 3 ginger slices (about 1-inch each)
  • 12 large bone-in skinless chicken thighs
  • Parsley for garnish


  1. In a large pot, stir together the sugar, shoyu, star anise, and ginger.
  2. Add chicken.
  3. Bring chicken and shoyu mixture to a boil, then turn down heat and simmer for 20-30 minutes.
  4. Garnish with parsley.

Serves 6.

Note: Sauce may be used to make other dishes like shoyu meat or hotdogs.
