Ingredients:
Chinese-Style Turkey with Barley
Try this delicious recipe from the Electric Kitchen!
- 2 turkey hind quarters (4 to 5 lb)
- 2 to 3 tablespoons hoisin sauce (Chinese soybean sauce)
- 2/3 cup pearl barley
- 1 can (14 1/2 oz) chicken broth
- 2 cups water
- 1 can (8 oz) water chestnuts, chopped
- 4 dried mushrooms, soaked and sliced
- 1-inch piece ginger root, sliced
- 1 star anise
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
Directions:
- Rub turkey with the hoisin sauce.
- In a large sauce pot, combine all ingredients.
- Cover and bring to a boil; lower heat and cook until turkey is done, about 1 1/2 to 2 hours.
- Remove turkey and shred meat.
- Return meat to pot.
Makes 8 to 12 servings.
