Customer Renewable Programs
Net Energy Metering Plus and NEM Plus Limited Export
Net Energy Metering Plus (NEM Plus)
Net Energy Metering Plus (NEM Plus) is available only to current Net Energy Metering (NEM) customers. It allows NEM customers to add non-export capacity to their home or business without affecting their NEM status.
Customers may install new panels, battery storage or a combination of both under this program. The output from the NEM Plus system is used solely on-site and is not allowed to export to the grid. The addition of the NEM Plus system does not affect the customer’s existing NEM agreement.
This program benefits NEM customers whose energy demand routinely exceeds the supply provided by their rooftop solar or other renewable distributed energy resource (DER) system. It also benefits NEM customers who are considering renovations or purchases that increase electricity use, such as electric vehicles.
There are no program capacity limits or queues, so there are no deadlines to meet. The only pre-requirement for participation is an executed NEM agreement. As with all our programs, we encourage customers to do their own research and to make an informed decision about whether NEM Plus is right for their situation.

NEM Plus Limited Export
Net Energy Metering Plus Limited Export (NEM Plus Limited Export) is available only to current Net Energy Metering (NEM) customers. NEM Plus Limited Export allows customers to install additional panels, battery storage or a combination of both without increasing the export capacity of the original NEM system. While NEM Plus prohibits customers from exporting to the grid, NEM Plus Limited Export allows exports only when providing grid services. NEM Plus Limited Export requires customers to have battery storage and participate in a grid services program, such as BYOD Plus.
Customers enrolled in NEM Plus Limited Export are required to install a control device at the utility meter to limit the combined export capacity of the existing and additional generation to the capacity of the original NEM system. The battery must be programmed to 'load-following' mode so as not to export to the grid -- except when providing exports for grid services.
The amount of PV that can be added under NEM Plus Limited Export depends on the total size of the system's new battery. All PV generation, including existing and added capacity, cannot exceed twice the size of the new battery.
Customers applying for the program in our Customer Interconnection Tool should follow the NEM Plus process. In order to distinguish the application as NEM Plus Limited Export, customers or their contractors should indicate the operation selection in the single-line drawing attached to the application.
