HONOLULU, Aug. 10, 2023 – Hawaiian Electric crews will be replacing wood poles in the Kapalama and Kalihi Kai areas as part of ongoing resilience work tied to construction of the Auiki Substation.

The pole replacements will affect traffic and parking from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. as follows:

  • Saturday, Aug. 12: The westbound lane of Auiki will be closed and traffic contraflowed between Mokauea Street and Puuhale Road. No street parking in both directions in the work zone.
  • Friday, Aug. 18: The far-right makai-bound lane of Kalihi Street will be closed and street parking restricted in both directions between Homerule and Democrat streets. No street parking along westbound lane of Democrat at the intersection with Kalihi Street.

Motorists can expect delays in the area and should seek alternate routes, if possible.

Special duty police and flagmen will be onsite to direct traffic. Traffic cones will mark the work zone.

The resilience project will continue in the Kapalama area through the end of August.
