Release Date: 1/12/2022
HONOLULU, Jan. 12, 2022 - Hawaiian Electric crews will be relocating poles and other equipment in Kailua as part of the city’s intersection improvement program, impacting traffic Tuesday, Jan. 18, through Friday, Jan. 21. Work on Monday, Jan. 24, also will shut down access to Lanikai and Kailua Beach Park.
Impacts to the area are as follows:
- Tuesday, Jan. 18 - Friday, Jan. 21: Crews will work 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. to relocate utility poles, overhead lines and related electrical equipment near the intersection of Kailua Road and Kalaheo Avenue, between Kuulei Road and Kailua Beach Park. The project will require a single-lane closure in the work areas.
- Monday, Jan. 24: Road closures in both directions of Kailua Road and Kalaheo Avenue from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Only local traffic will be allowed. After the Kalapawai roundabout, there will be no access in and out of Lanikai and to Kailua Beach Park while crews replace overhead power lines.
Electronic message boards, safety signs and traffic cones will alert drivers ahead of the work zones. Flagmen and special duty police will provide onsite traffic control. Motorists are asked to slow down when approaching and passing the work zones, plan for traffic delays or use alternative routes.
