Hawaiian Electric upgrades power equipment in downtown Chinatown area

Work requires lane and road closures on Aug. 6, 7, 9 & 10

HONOLULU, Aug. 3, 2018 – Hawaiian Electric Company crews and contractors will be upgrading power distribution equipment in the downtown Chinatown area, requiring lane and road closures on Monday and Tuesday, Aug. 6 and 7, and on Thursday and Friday, Aug. 9 and 10, as follows:

  • Monday and Tuesday, 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.: Smith Street will be closed from N. Pauahi Street to Beretania Street; N. Beretania Street will have a short left lane closure before Smith Street and a short right lane closure at Smith Street intersection
  • Thursday 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. Friday:
    • Road closures: Maunakea Street from N. Beretania Street to about Hotel Street; Smith Street from Pauahi Street to N. Beretania Street; Nuuanu Avenue from Chaplain Lane to Pauahi Street; N. Pauahi Street from Maunakea Street to Bethel Street
    • Lane closure: left lane of N. Beretania Street from before Smith Street through intersection of Maunakea Street

Parking will be restricted along the work areas, as designated by signs. Traffic signs, control measures, flagmen, and special-duty police officers will help direct traffic.
