HONOLULU, Nov. 20, 2018 – Due to the construction to install new 46-kilovolt cables under the Ala Wai Canal, Kaiolu Street in Waikiki will continue to be closed to through traffic at Ala Wai Boulevard 24 hours a day, through Dec. 7.

A contractor working for Hawaiian Electric Company is working with horizontal directional drilling equipment that is positioned on the mauka end of Kaiolu Street, blocking the flow of traffic to Ala Wai Boulevard.

During the closure at the mauka end of Kaiolu Street, local traffic may enter and exit Kaiolu Street at Kuhio Avenue. Parking is restricted on Kaiolu Street to allow the normally one-way street to accommodate two-way traffic.

Message boards are positioned on Kaiolu Street. Traffic control signs and cones are directing motorists.
