Power Quality Monitoring

Power Quality Monitoring is typically performed using a power disturbance analyzer. The analyzer is capable of monitoring voltage, current, and providing a detailed record when measurements fall outside pre-set limits. Power disturbance analyzers can be set to monitor the following general categories: high frequency events such as impulses and noise, voltage events (sags, swells, under voltage, over voltage and outages), distortions and frequencies.

Examples of current and voltage waveform graphs that power disturbance analyzers record are shown below:

Close follow-up during the first few days of monitoring is important in selecting proper data thresholds of the power disturbance analyzer. An adjustment in analyzer sensitivity may be necessary or relocation of the analyzer may become necessary if the analyzer does not record a power quality event that causes equipment to malfunction.
