Devil’s Food Chocolate Cake

Ingredients:

Devil’s Food Chocolate Cake

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 cup hot coffee
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

Frosting:

  • 1 cup milk
  • 5 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

Directions:

  1. Heat oven to 325°F.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, sift together dry ingredients.
  3. Add oil, coffee and milk and mix at medium speed for 2 minutes.
  4. Add eggs and vanilla and beat 2 more minutes.
  5. Expect batter to be thin.
  6. Pour into a 9" x 13" greased and floured pan.
  7. Bake for 45 minutes.
  8. Cool for 15 minutes and then cool completely on baking rack.

Frosting:

  1. In a saucepan combine milk and flour and cook over low heat until thick, whisking constantly.
  2. Cover and refrigerate until chilled.
  3. In a medium bowl, beat butter, sugar and vanilla until creamy.
  4. Add chilled milk and flour mixture and beat for 10 minutes.
  5. Frost cooled cake and enjoy!
