Sustainability
We care about our island environment and are committed to a sustainable future for generations to follow. Through our long-standing partnerships with the community, nonprofit organizations and government agencies, we contribute our people power and resources for a stronger, sustainable, and more resilient Hawaii.
Environmental Responsibility
Hawaiian Electric believes it's important to serve as stewards of our islands and for our customers to be informed about environmental issues.
Sustainability Reports & Maps
We produce an annual Sustainability Report to provide information about our commitment to sustainable operations and development. The report highlights which include sustainability maps, programs and activities that our company engages in to reduce the contributions towards global warming from electricity production, and offers the opportunity to monitor our progress.
Climate Change Action
We are committed to significantly reducing carbon emissions by adding renewable generation to our island grids and retiring oil-fired power plants. By 2045, our carbon emissions will be net zero, meaning whatever small amount of emissions we produce will be captured or offset.
Community Benefits Program
At Hawaiian Electric, protecting the environment and ensuring the safety and health of the public is our kuleana, and one we take seriously.
Community
Hawaiian Electric collaborates with community partner agencies such as Hawaii Energy and the Hawaii Green Infrastructure Authority to maximize resources and ensure customers are aware of sustainable, energy efficient, and financially affordable opportunities.
Hawaii Energy is Hawaiian Electric's partner in providing energy efficient services to assist customers in lowering their usage, potentially decreasing their monthly bills, and contributing to the pursuit of a clean energy future.
Hawaii Green Infrastructure Authority offers eligible customers the opportunity to participate in the renewable energy transition in an affordable and accessible manner.
