Request for Proposals (RFP)
Federal Grant Projects
Hawaiian Electric is the recipient of a federal grant from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL) also known as Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA). With the grant awarded under Grid Resilience & Innovation Partnership (GRIP) DE-FOA-003195 for our Climate Adaptation Resilience Program, we will execute work focused on transformative hardening of our Transmission & Distribution system against climate risks to increase wildfire safety and resilience for Hawaii residents, with a focus on improving risk wildfire mitigation measures across Hawaiian Electric’s five service territories.
The scope of our program consists of the following eight initiatives: (1) hardening critical transmission lines in wildfire risk areas, (2) hardening poles along limited ingress/egress routes, (3) hardening distribution lines in wildfire risk areas, (4) situational awareness enhancements, (5) hazard tree removal, (6) undergrounding select overhead distribution lines, (7) control center resiliency improvements, and (8) developing wildfire risk models.
We will be issuing RFP’s for contracting support to supplement our workforce and materials necessary to complete this work between now and August 2029.
