Hawaiian Electric continues to advance wildfire safety efforts

Since launching its expanded wildfire safety strategy one year ago, Hawaiian Electric has made significant improvements that have reduced the wildfire risk from its equipment. Its actions include a Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) program, replacing and testing thousands of utility poles, upgrading miles of overhead power lines, clearing intrusive vegetation near electrical equipment, and installing weather stations and AI-assisted high definition video cameras.

AES Hawaii Launches Company’s First Solar-plus-Storage Facility on Oahu

Today, AES Hawaii celebrated the launch of its West Oahu solar-plus-storage project in Kapolei – the company’s first facility to combine solar generation and battery energy storage on Oahu. Employee-led workplace campaign results in over $316,000 raised for Aloha United Way in 2023

A year-long workplace campaign led by Hawaiian Electric employees resulted in raising more than $316,000 for Aloha United Way, the nonprofit working to advance the health, education and financial stability of the Hawaii community. Guided by the campaign theme Pilina, the Hawaiian meaning “to come together,” employees united with retirees and IBEW Local 1260 to amplify their fundraising efforts.

Moratorium on disconnections of electric service for nonpayment for Maui customers extended through May 4

Suspension of service disconnections for all Hawaiian Electric customers on Maui has been extended through at least May 4, 2024, in accordance with the extension of Gov. Josh Green’s emergency proclamation. Maui customers who are financially challenged by the devastating wildfires will not have to worry about potential disconnection of their electric service.

Hawaiian Electric seeks public comment regarding next round of renewable energy procurements

Hawaiian Electric is seeking public comment for the preliminary draft of the Integrated Grid Planning Request for Proposals (IGP RFP), the latest phase of clean energy procurements aimed at stabilizing rates and advancing energy equity, growing the marketplace for large-scale renewables, creating a modern and resilient grid, and securing reliability as existing fossil fuel generators reach the end of their useful lives.

Hawaiian Electric delays launch of new solar, energy storage programs one month as further refinements are made

Hawaiian Electric will postpone the launch of its new rooftop solar and energy storage programs by one month while the company makes changes approved by the Public Utilities Commission. The new programs, originally scheduled to launch March 1, will now be available to customers starting April 1.

Hawaii VEX IQ Championships qualifies 7 elementary and middle school robotics teams for World event in Dallas, TX

Sponsored by Hawaiian Electric, the Hawaiʻi VEX IQ Robotics Elementary and Middle School Regional Championships, held on February 17 and 19 at Ewa Makai Middle School, qualified 7 out of 59 Hawaii VEX robotics teams that will advance to the 2024 VEX Robotics World Championships. The VEX IQ Competition and VEX Robotics Competition (VRC) are separate robotics programs with different game challenges, rules, robot hardware, and fields.

Hawaiian Electric to inventory utility pole attachments on Maui

Hawaiian Electric is inspecting attachments on utility poles throughout Maui as required by a Public Utilities Commission order relating to a master license agreement for pole attachments within Maui County, Oahu and Hawaii Island. Inspections are beginning in parts of West Maui and Central Maui and then will continue to South Maui and around the island through November 2024.
