New network of weather stations in high-risk areas will strengthen Hawaiian Electric’s wildfire response

Hawaiian Electric is installing a network of weather stations in wildfire-prone areas to provide key information about wind, temperature and humidity to help the company better predict and respond to fire weather conditions.

Hawaiian Electric’s Battery Bonus program hits cap on Oahu

Hawaiian Electric’s Battery Bonus program, which pays a cash incentive and bill credits to customers who add battery storage to their rooftop solar systems, has reached its maximum capacity of 40 megawatts (MW) on Oahu, and no new applications are being processed at this time. A successor incentive program to Battery Bonus known as Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) will be available to Hawaiian Electric customers starting March 1, 2024.

Shift and Save pilot, new time-of-use rates to launch Feb. 1 for 16,000 customers on Oahu, Hawaii Island only

Hawaiian Electric has expanded the Shift and Save pilot program on Oahu and Hawaii Island to 16,000 participants who will test new time-of-use (TOU) rates starting Feb. 1. The randomly selected customers, including 4,000 newly added households and businesses, will be notified via email or postal mail by Dec. 5.

Moratorium on service disconnections for nonpayment for Maui customers extended through Jan. 5, 2024

Suspension of service disconnections for all Hawaiian Electric customers on Maui has been extended through at least Jan. 5, 2024, in accordance with the extension of Gov. Josh Green’s emergency proclamation. Maui customers who are financially challenged by the devastating wildfires will not have to worry about potential disconnection of their electric service.

Hawaiian Electric conducting routine aerial line inspections for Maui from Nov. 6-9

To maintain reliable service, Hawaiian Electric will be using a helicopter to perform routine power line inspections on Maui on Monday, Nov. 6 to Thursday, Nov. 9, from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.
