My New Year's Resolution

Planning and illustrating a New Year’s Resolution to conserve electricity at home was the task faced by hundreds of elementary school children at public schools on Oahu. The schools are participating in the Home Energy Challenge, a school-based competition sponsored by the State of Hawaii Department of Education and Hawaiian Electric Company, in which students put their classroom learning into practice at home.

Fireworks Safety Advice

Hawaiian Electric Company urges the public to use caution if celebrating New Year’s Eve with fireworks. Carefully set up and use fireworks in an area clear of overhead power lines. Do not string fireworks on utility poles.If using a ladder, pole, or tie lines to set up fireworks, keep a 10-foot clearance from power lines.

Hawaiian Electric Companies warn customers about utility impersonators

Hawaiian Electric Company, Maui Electric Company and Hawaii Electric Light Company want to warn electric customers about an apparent telephone scam. Customers have reported receiving telephone calls saying their electric bill is delinquent and subject to disconnection. These customers were told to make payments at certain retail stores using specific debit card services and then provide the caller with a confirmation number which grants the scammer access to the customer’s funds.

Hawaii Sustainable Energy Research Facility (HiSERF) is new name for fuel cell test facility, reflecting expanded mission

From today, you can call it HiSERF, the Hawaii Sustainable Energy Research Facility.  The 10-year-old Hawaii Fuel Cell Test Facility – sponsored by the Hawaii Natural Energy Institute at the University of Hawaii-Manoa and Hawaiian Electric Company -- got that new name, a new logo and a new sign to reflect its new and expanded mission in helping Hawaii reach a clean energy future.

Meetings set for public comment on electric utility planning

Meetings have been scheduled across the state to receive public comment on Integrated Resource Planning by Hawaiian Electric, Maui Electric and Hawaii Electric Light Company. The utilities’ goal is to file an Integrated Resource Planning Report for each company with the Hawaii Public Utilities Commission by June 28, 2013.
