Hawaiian Electric announces an overnight power outage that will affect customers in parts of north Kohala. The outage is scheduled to start at about 9 p.m. on Thursday, June 26, and end at about 6 a.m. on Friday, June 27, 2025. The affected communities are Hawi, Kapaau and Halaula, as well as customers along Kohala Mountain Road from mile markers 6-9 and 11-19. The Kohala Ranch subdivision will not be affected.

Hawaiian Electric is improving its outage reporting system on Hawaii Island and in Maui County. As part of the new system, the current phone numbers to report outages will be replaced with new toll-free numbers, effective May 8, 2025.

The Innergex Renewable Energy, Inc. (Innergex) Hale Kuawehi Solar and Battery Storage Project began commercial operations on March 25, 2025 and is producing up to 30 megawatts of renewable energy for the Hawaii Island grid. It is the second solar plus battery storage project on the island.
