Trust for Public Land Hosts A Day on the Land at MAO Organic Farms

Today, Trust for Public Land (TPL) brought together over 130 community volunteers for its annual A Day on the Land at MAO Organic Farms. The event invited participants from across 11 local companies to work the land and learn about the community-led food movement to care for the aina and improve Hawaii’s self-sufficiency.

Hawaiian Electric to inventory utility pole attachments on Maui

Hawaiian Electric is inspecting attachments on utility poles throughout Maui as required by a Public Utilities Commission order relating to a master license agreement for pole attachments within Maui County, Oahu and Hawaii Island. Inspections are beginning in parts of West Maui and Central Maui and then will continue to South Maui and around the island through November 2024.

Regulators approve 5-year grid resilience plan

The Hawaii Public Utilities Commission today approved Hawaiian Electric Company’s $190 million Climate Adaptation Transmission and Distribution Resilience Program application, which will help address the increasing threat of wildfires and harden Hawaii’s electric grids against other severe weather-related events fueled by climate change.

Shift and Save pilot, new time-of-use rates now live for 16,000 customers on Oahu, Hawaii Island

The 1-year Shift and Save pilot program is now live for about 16,000 homes and businesses on Oahu and Hawaii Island that will test time-of-use (TOU) rates. Eligible customers on the five islands Hawaiian Electric serves who were not selected for the pilot may voluntarily enroll in the time-varying rates, which could potentially reduce bills.

Hawaiian Electric continues restoration efforts in West Maui

Hawaiian Electric is continuing restoration work to rebuild portions of the electric system in Lahaina to ensure safe and reliable power to all West Maui customers. Ongoing restoration efforts include the rebuilding of transmission and distribution lines along former routes in the Lahaina area with the installation of new interim steel poles and electrical equipment.

Moratorium on disconnections of electric service for nonpayment for all Maui customers extended through March 5

Suspension of service disconnections for all Hawaiian Electric customers on Maui has been extended through at least March 5, 2024, in accordance with the extension of Gov. Josh Green’s emergency proclamation. Maui customers who are financially challenged by the devastating wildfires will not have to worry about potential disconnection of their electric service.

Hawaiian Electric to host community mtg. Tuesday, Jan. 16, in Pearl City for Waiau Repower project

Hawaiian Electric will share details of its plan to repower the Waiau Power Plant in Pearl City at a community meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 16, from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Waiau Elementary School (98-450 Hookanike Street). The meeting also will be streamed live on facebook.com/HawaiianElectric.
