Oven Kalua Turkey

Ingredients:

Oven Kalua Turkey

  • 12 large ti leaves
  • 10 to 12 pound turkey, rinsed and drained
  • 1/2 bottle (3 1/2 ounce size) liquid smoke
  • 1/4 cup Hawaiian salt

Directions:

  1. Wash ti leaves; remove fibrous part of the veins.
  2. Line a large baking pan with foil; place leaves in the pan, radiating from center.
  3. Put turkey on leaves.
  4. Rub liquid smoke and salt on the inside and outside of turkey.
  5. Fold leaves around turkey and crimp foil tightly around turkey.
  6. Add a little water to the pan.
  7. Roast in electric oven at 375°F for 6 hours.
  8. Shred turkey, adding pan liquid to moisten meat.

Makes 8 to 10 servings.

A friend gave me this exact recipe, it was from the newspaper or the electric bill 2005 was a long time ago to remember exactly. Taste? lets put it this way, when you are shredding it as a group. we all caution each other to stop sampling or there will be nothing for anyone else.
