Green Tea Kakigori (Green Tea Shaved Ice)

Ingredients:

Green Tea Kakigori (Green Tea Shaved Ice)

  • 8 cups of ice, cubed or crushed

Syrup:

  • 1 cup water
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 2 teaspoons green tea matcha powder (available at Asian markets)

Topping:

  • 1/4 cup evaporated milk, unsweetened
  • 1 pint green tea ice cream
  • 1 cup cooked and sweetened azuki beans (available at Asian markets)

Directions:

  1. In a small saucepan, dissolve sugar into water and bring to a simmer over low heat.
  2. Remove from heat.
  3. Cool for 10 minutes, whisk in green tea matcha powder.
  4. Refrigerate until chilled before using.
  5. Add ice to blender or food processor, being sure to fill it only half way.
  6. Grind ice on the finest setting, stopping intermittently to scrape down the edges and rotate ice so that the larger chunks are closer to the blade.
  7. Repeat several times for larger quantities of shaved ice.
  8. In a small bowl, pack in a generous amount of ice and cover with syrup.
  9. Drizzle the evaporated milk over the shaved ice and top with one scoop of ice cream and azuki beans.

Makes 4 servings.
